Thought For The Day – Friday 23rd January 2026
Compassion
As we live our lives, compassion is key quality.
Compassion especially for others, particularly those suffering.
Compassion also, at times, for ourselves.
Our word “compassion” is derived from the Latin “compati”, meaning “to suffer with”. It relates to the Latin “comparti” and “compartior”, meaning “to share”.
When we show compassion to another person, we hear, listen, make time, reflect, and respect,
We share.
This is very much linked to empathy, putting ourselves in the shoes of others, walking with them, seeing things from a different perspective.
Compassion means lifting others up.
Compassion means looking after their heart and soul.
Compassion means valuing the vulnerable.
We are massively inspired by very resilient people who experience challenges. Many challenges are beyond words to truly describe.
Compassion is demonstrated in our thoughts and actions. It is evidenced in what we give, not seeking anything in return.
On Monday of this week, “Blue Monday”, awareness was raised in the U.K. of those having challenges after Christmas and in the new year.
We show compassion for all those who suffer internationally, nationally, and locally.
Interact will be collecting items for “Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank” in the next two weeks. Please see the suggested item list below. No nuts please. Let us fill Room C05, and The Bishop’s Stortford High School, with items, and compassion, once again.
