Thought For The Day – Thursday 22nd January 2026
World Education Day
Saturday the 24th of January 2026 is the International Day of Education.
The global theme for this year is: “The power of youth in co-creating Education”.
This important idea raises awareness of the vital role of young people as architects, change-makers, designers, developers, and partners of, and in, Education.
This theme recognises that young people do not passively receive Education.
Rather, young people actively create, and co-create, and lead wonderful learning moments, inside and outside class and school.
We see this at T.B.S.H.S., and in all Schools and places of Learning. “Teaching teacheth the teacher”, as the proverb states.
The United Nations report that youth, defined as being under thirty years of age, make up more than half of the global population, and “are a powerful engine for innovation, social change and sustainable development.”
Education is key for careers, economics, inclusion, justice, peace, and well-being.
Education shines a light. Education empowers, and illuminates, in challenging times.
Character and values are integral to Education.
The United Nations also highlight that, globally, there are still barriers to education, a human right enshrined in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including conflict, poverty, and inequality.
The United Nations also communicate the vital importance of Leadership in Education. Adults, members of staff, who have given, and still give, their lives to Education and Learning. We also pay great tribute all who work in, and give to, this important and inspirational endeavour, at every level, in every role, in every context, in every place.
We pay equal tribute to carers, guardians, parents, and other community leaders, for their vital role in Education and Learning.
Education, which is lifelong, is one of life’s greatest gifts, to be loved, nurtured, treasured, and universalized.
