Thought For The Day – Friday 9th May 2025
Thank You Year 13
In his first visit to our new School facility yesterday, author and broadcaster Greg James spoke, after another fabulous House Drama, of already feeling at home, even after a brief time, and that the School was, and is, very much T.B.S.H.S.
Perhaps, with humility, mindful that many are proud of their communities, we cannot describe T.B.S.H.S., but we experience, and feel, it.
Greg never forgets, always remembers and eternally appreciates. This, of course, says everything about Greg. It is why, when asked by the Sixth Form Senior Student Team, what achievement he was most proud of, he talked of a contented, and happy, life, giving back, and T.B.S.H.S.
True community is making absolutely everyone feel special and part of things regardless and whatever. Standing alongside and together, helping all up, being happy with, and for, all, supporting in challenging times.
Greg, and his fellow guest Chris Smith, showed wonderful values last evening.
Legacies are left, legacies are enhanced. The story continues. Everyone plays an equally important role. Today sees the “Leavers’ Assembly” for Year 13, before their study period commences in advance of public examinations.
Thank you to those Year 13 students who have been with us since Year 7. You were, and are, and will always be, “The Black and Gold Spirit”. Everywhere.
Thank you to those Year 13 students who joined us in the Sixth Form, and before. You made us better and we were, and are, blessed and grateful you positively decided to be part of T.B.S.H.S. and in such numbers.
Year 13 led, and shone, in every area of T.B.S.H.S. life, inside and outside the classroom, locally, nationally and internationally.
Thank you for the Music. And the: Sport; Drama; Debating; Duke of Edinburgh’s Award; Charity and Community Work; The School Newspaper; Student Leadership and Mentoring; Educational Visits; Open Evenings; Sixth Form Inductions; the “Black and Gold” welcome you gave guests, speakers and visitors. Wherever you go, wherever you went, you represent and represented.
Thank you for the most important activity and subject of all – Being A Good, Humble, Kind, Thoughtful and Wonderful Person.
You led, and shone, in a global pandemic, keeping people safe, in such a challenging period, with on-line learning, and in the times during, before and since.
You led, and shone, in two equally historic and thriving T.B.S.H.S. facilities and Sixth Form Centres.
Most vitally, and appropriately, of all, you led, and shone, when remembering Will Scutts.
And still.
You will lead, and shine, in your examinations, and beyond. Believe.
Thank you, as ever, to Mr. Reeve, the Senior Leadership Team and, of course, the devoted Sixth Form Management Team of Mr. Munro, Mr. Mariner-Goff, Mrs. Howe, Ms. Goan and Mrs. Price. Thank you to the Year 13 form tutors, teachers and all staff in every area and dimension of the School. Thank you to former Head of Year, Mr. Ardin, and Inclusion Managers Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Waldock, and previous staff teams, for all their wonderful work previously.
Thank you to your Primary Schools, Nurseries and, most importantly of all, thank you to your carers, parents and families.
We never, ever forget our roots.
Everyone is beautiful, diverse, unique and wonderful. Everyone, and everything, has a sacred personality. Everyone has a story, their story, their journey. This story, their story, may only truly be known in this life to their family, friends, and to the person themselves.
Those we are deeply inspired by are always with us.
We continue their outstanding legacy of love.
We “pay” forward. We “pay” back.
Thank you to (in alphabetical register order of surname, by form) the following wonderful people. Hopefully, I have transcribed these correctly:
