100 years of Bishop’s Stortford RBL
On Sunday 3rd April 2022, the School were represented by Patrick Nunn (President of Interact) and Mr. Etheridge at the Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration for 100 years of the Bishop’s Stortford Branch of The Royal British Legion.
The service, conducted by Reverend Williams and supporting clergy of Saint Michael’s Church, was inspirational, illuminating, insightful and deeply reflective. It was a well-attended and fine civic occasion.
Bible readings, thoughtfully read by RBL members, and subsequently wonderfully explained by Reverend Weekes, reflected the sacrifice and suffering of war, the fallen nature of our world, the promise of a better world through Christ and Jesus’s command to help and serve those who suffer, through The Parable of the Sheep and Goats. Reflections and testimonies from Bishop’s Stortford RBL told movingly of the history of the Branch and how the RBL greatly and compassionately helps others today (“service before self”). Students o?f Thorn Grove Primary School gave a fine poetry performance whilst the Amici Cantate? Choir provided thoughtful music, such as that of the composer Karl Jenkins, and led rousing congregational hymns. There were important moments of contemplation through prayer.
Every November, The Bishop’s Stortford High School supports our local RBL’s Poppy Appeal, though it is important that the work of the RBL is remembered all year round.
We send our very best wishes to Bishop’s Stortford RBL. 100 years of service, remembrance and care is an inspiration to us all.
