Year 8 Careers Day
Year 8 enjoy a day of career presentations
On Thursday 12th June, Year 8 students at The Bishop’s Stortford High School had an exciting and fascinating morning of careers sessions led by numerous guests from many different sectors. As they rotated carousel-style round the classrooms, the presenters gave an insight into their companies, prospective careers and pathways. The NHS, Inflite Engineering, Pell Frishmann, Mansell & Co, St James’s Place Wealth Investment, McLarens Insurance, Geotechnical & Environmental Associates, Kori Construction Ltd, Linklaters LLP, GSK and the BBC all generously gave up their time to support the students and with help of PowerPoints, quizzes and plenty of hand-outs, the students picked up lots of interesting and vital information to help support future GCSE subject choices – and possibly careers.
Careers and Work-Related Learning Department’s Claire Jonas said; ‘After an afternoon of reflection and completion of a detailed careers quiz, I’m looking forward to learning what our Year 8s are all about! As always, the NHS and the engineers were extremely popular due to their hands-on sessions complete with lots of props, but of course, all of the employers gave interesting insights into their professions and the students benefitted enormously.
I received lots of super compliments on the behaviour of Year 8 and naturally our new school building received lots of compliments too.
Whether it’s a careers fair, a workshop or an assembly, it’s very humbling that companies are so willing and able to give up their time to support our students and we’re incredibly grateful.’
