Today, seven employers from the Construction, Medical, Legal, Accountancy, Engineering, Scientific and Financial industries, spent the day with Year 8 pupils.
Representatives from the NHS Harlow, Hill Developers (construction), Price Bailey (tax/auditing/accountancy), One Wealth (investment/finance), GSK, Linklaters LLP and Inflite Engineering very kindly gave their time and expertise to lead sessions with Year 8.
Divided into groups and having a session with each employer, the boys heard all about how to get into each industry, what qualifications they need to aim for, the typical salary of someone working in that particular industry, career progression and what kind of work each one does and the rewards and job satisfaction from each line of work.
During the last session of the day, they boys were given a questionnaire designed to identify their strengths and weaker areas, and what types of careers may suit them.

Claire Jonas, Careers Lead, said “Today’s event was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 8 boys to find out about the world of work, and careers in these industry sectors, and I am sure they gained a lot of valuable information.
We are really grateful to those companies who supported our students today by kindly giving up their time and presenting such informative sessions. All of our visitors were very complementary about our students and the Year 8 Form Captains performed their first ‘Meet & Greet’ duty!
The Career Insights Day meets the new DFE Key Stage 3 Provider Access Legislation (PAL), and will be an ongoing initiative at TBSHS.”
