Thought For The Day – Wednesday 6th May 2026
Blue and Yellow, Black and Gold
Ever since 2001, 25 years ago, the local, Felsted-based, international charity, “U.K.- Aid”, has been supporting people in Ukraine.
The charity, personally, delivers donated items, and monies, to the country, working with 25 organisations and hospitals.
This list includes supporting a medical centre, which is a United Nations Centre of Excellence, treating children in the town of Chernihiv.
The Felsted-based charity have continued their work even in current times of conflict, displacement, invasion, and war.
“U.K.-Aid”, the founders of which, pictured below, were recognised with M.B.E. honours, particularly supports those affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
Very recently, on Sunday 26th of April 2026, the 40th anniversary of this disaster of the 26th of April 1986 was commemorated.
This date is a United Nations-recognised day of remembrance for the tragedy.
This disaster occurred when one of nuclear reactors, “Reactor 4”, at the Chernobyl nuclear power station exploded, causing severe fall out of radioactive material.
According to the United Nations, this disaster affected, and affects, very many people, and the environment generally.
An outstanding, recent, thirty-minute “B.B.C. One” documentary, “What Happened at Chernobyl”, which we featured in a recent Citizenship lesson at T.B.S.H.S. on this topic, explored the disaster then, and the site now in current challenging times beyond words in Ukraine.
The programme also visited the nearby city of Pripyat, which had to be evacuated then and is still empty today.
Interact have worked with “UK-Aid” previously, with students visiting the charity. If you wish to donate to Interact’s collection, in Room C05, any of the items below would be gratefully appreciated.
Our actions, thoughts, and prayers continue to be with all those in need and those suffering locally, nationally, and internationally.
