Thought For The Day – Wednesday 3rd May 2023
Thoughtful Service
“It has become apparent to me that we need to re-develop our vision of the earth, and of the role that we humans have to play as stewards of the earth.” (King Charles III, “The Earth in Balance” documentary, 1990)
King Charles III has been described as “the thoughtful King”.
King Charles patiently served for seventy years before acceding to the throne after the passing of his mother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Many changes and positive developments have occurred in this time both in the U.K. and around the world.
As recently reported in “The Times” newspaper, each day King Charles III wakes up before 7 a.m., reading newspapers and listening to the “Today” programme on Radio 4. His engagements run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the King stops for a sandwich and a piece of cake. He continues to work until dinner at 8:30 p.m. King Charles works from 10 p.m. until midnight.
Although the monarch or sovereign does not get involved in politics, they do meet with the Prime Minister every week whilst, as we saw with Queen Elizabeth II, in their words and actions they articulate very important and symbolic messages to individuals and communities.
Causes dear to the heart of King Charles III for many years include the environment, multiculturalism, faiths, charity and young people.
King Charles III was speaking out for the environment many years ago. He has always said he feels a duty to include all religions and to celebrate diversity. His charity “The Prince’s Trust” has changed lives as this clip shows: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0fjnktk
The life of King Charles III has had significant challenges. The very sudden passing of Diana, Princess of Wales, was devastating for all around the world, especially Diana’s family.
In divorcing, and re-marrying, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were symbolic of many relationships today.
The theme of the Coronation in Westminster Abbey will be service.
All the people named in today’s message here strived to give a voice to the voiceless. They have selflessly encouraged, inspired and served others.
The outstanding “FYI” team, which features on “Sky News”, produce a brilliant weekly news programme by students for students. Here is their comprehensive guide to the Coronation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywzBGq_j2yQ
