Thought For The Day – Wednesday 13th May 2026
Mental Health Awareness Week
This week is “Mental Health Awareness Week” in the United Kingdom.
The theme of the week this year is:
“Take action. Take action for: yourself, for others; for society”.

Mental health and wellbeing matters.
Mental health connects both ways to physical health. For the mental impacts on the physical. Whilst the physical impacts on the mental.
The brain and mind is part of, and connected to, the body. The body is part of, and connected to, the brain and mind. Both experience life.
In some respects, mental health could be said to be even more important than physical health.
For the brain and mind is perhaps the most delicate, human, precious, powerful, and unique part of us.
The National Health Service in the United Kingdom recommends five evidence-based actions that a person can take to look after their mental health:
- Connect to others – reach out, share, and talk
- Being active
- Learn new skills
- Give to others (and to ourselves)
- Notice the feelings and situations of ourselves, and others, in the present moment
How do we look after our mental health?
How do we look after the mental health of others?
Challenge and support builds empathy and resilience.
“A problem shared is a problem halved”.
Although we all have mental health, at this time, and at all times, we deeply think about anyone experiencing very particular, and very difficult, psychological challenges, suffered through experience, illness, injury, and trauma. We also equally deeply think about all who care, counsel, nurse, and nurture, in this vital area of personal and social care.
