Thought For The Day – Wednesday 10th December 2025
Think Global, Act Local
Well done to Year 11 students on their resilience, and “Black and Gold Spirit”, in their mock examinations.
It is a challenging schedule but, these days, it is a demanding programme in the summer too. Nationally, for practical, administrative reasons, examinations are not spaced out with many days in between each individual paper. It is a case of give and go, write much and move on. Students believe in themselves, are positive, share their passion and all those many hours of learning.
Mock examinations are invaluable and important preparation for final examinations.
To an extent, it is a case of train hard, play “easier”. That is the goal, though there will always need to be “in-game” adjustments and character shown both in each game and across the season. Tactical formations change in response to events.
Character, ethics, health, morality, respect, wellbeing, and values must always come first.
In our various situations, a wider life perspective certainly helps.
Today is “World Human Rights Day”.
The 10th of December 1948 marked the moment, in Paris, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Human Rights were set out and protected.
The theme for International Human Rights Day 2025 is: “Our Everyday Essentials.”
Today raises awareness of such necessities, and rights, as: food; water; sanitation; shelter; affordability; and life itself.
These rights are fundamental, foundational, timeless, and spaceless.
At this time, and beyond, advocacy and charity upstands for the human rights of all.
This occurs locally, nationally, and globally.
It includes people and the environment.
Well done to students, and staff, picking up litter this evening.
Today is also “World Animal Rights Day”.
We are stewards of creation.
“Thinking global and acting local” is a definition of Citizenship.
It starts with us.
If students wish to help people in our local community who will find Christmas economically challenging, students should please attend the meeting with “Waitrose” and Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club at 1:20 p.m. in Room C05 today. Lunch passes, for this purpose, will be available from break time in Room C05.
