Thought For The Day – Tuesday 21st March 2023
535 Days – Support
There was an inspirational story of togetherness, solidarity and empathy on Saturday afternoon.
David Brooks, of AFC Bournemouth, had not played in a competitive professional football match for the first team in 535 days. This is because David was diagnosed with cancer.
Even before his diagnosis, this fine international player had a serious injury too.
Now cancer-free after treatment, David Brooks came on as a substitute in the game in Birmingham at Aston Villa on Saturday.
All the supporters, including all the brilliant Aston Villa supporters, gave David a standing ovation when he was warming up, and when he came on to the field in the 79th minute.
In sport and in life, some things are bigger than narrow personal interest, allegiance and loyalty. Some things are bigger than the team or individual cause we support. Some things, all things, are about a common humanity, empathy and respect.
