Thought For The Day – Tuesday 15th November 2022
Would You Like It If…?
It is Anti-Bullying week in the United Kingdom.
Ultimately, bullying is the persistent negative treatment of others and not considering the lives and feelings of others.
Everyone has a story and journey and mutual respect and caring is the foundation of society. We not me.
Bullying can happen at any age and in any environment. Bullying can happen to someone’s face, it can happen behind someone’s back. It can be individual, it can involve a group. It can involve attention, it can involve ignoring. It can be physical, it can be psychological. It can be in person, it can be on-line. It can be direct, it can be more hidden and subtle. One of the most pernicious (harmful) aspects of bullying is the bully making the person being bullied feel they are the cause.
Ultimately, bullying is very, very upsetting and totally wrong and completely immoral at any time. It is even more upsetting when young people are bullied.
But the good will and does win out. The overwhelming majority of people do good. There is much support. The theme for Anti-Bullying Week is “Reach Out”. We reach out if we are being bullied and reach out to, and for, others we suspect are being bullied.
The Anti-Bullying Alliance is also encouraging people to: “Be the change you want to see”.
“The Golden Rule”, found in all faiths and moral systems, is “do as we would be done by” or “treat others as we wish to be treated”.
A good measure to apply to all our decisions is: “Would we like it if…?”
