Thought For The Day – Tuesday 11th June 2023
Always Black And Gold
In the summer of 2002, Simon McConnell (pictured in the first picture above) and Tom Ryder (pictured in the second picture above) were Captain and Vice-Captain of the Year 7 cricket team. They were both in Chantry form and house.
Simon was one of the finest cricket captains, combining judgement, leadership and motivation. He also excelled in Mathematics.
Tom was uniquely outstanding in his academic studies and in all three disciplines of sport, music and drama.
Between Friday 30th June and Wednesday July 5th, Tom and Simon returned to TBSHS.
On the Friday, Tom performed in “Showcase” as part of Sixth Form Induction, mentioning the mental health charity he co-founded called “Retune” before he played.
On the following Wednesday, Simon returned to Captain the M.C.C., the world’s oldest cricket club, against TBSHS.
The fact that Tom and Simon returned within a few days of each another, fifteen years after they left TBSHS, was not co-ordinated and was purely by chance.
However, it was no surprise, given their excellent and good character, and that our students, staff and parents are always “Black and Gold”.
Hopefully, you will return one day to inspire the next generation at TBSHS in a good and wonderful manner.
We welcome the stars of the future on Thursday with Year 6 Day.
