Thought For The Day – Thursday 21st March 2024
The Spirit of the Game
Congratulations to the Sixth Form Management Team and the Sixth Form on such a wonderful day yesterday.
Be proud.
You made memories and kept a legacy going.
Most appropriately, yesterday was also World Happiness Day. Today is World Poetry Day.
For the next few days we very warmly welcome our guests, staff and students, from France. Thank you to all hosting and to the Languages Department, as always.
Tonight, former T.B.S.H.S. student Greg James, has been given the honour, with his “Tailenders” podcast team, of delivering the annual Lord Colin Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s Cricket Ground, home of M.C.C., the world’s oldest cricket club, who we play in our prestigious and nationally recognised cricket season at T.B.S.H.S.
Colin Cowdrey was a former England cricket captain and great batter. He visited the school to speak in Citizenship. After his passing in 2000, distinguished lectures at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London were set up each year in his memory to promote “The Spirit of the Game”.
Tonight’s presentation has been organized by Mark Nicholas, a fine former cricketer, captain and current broadcaster. Greg follows greats of the game in this lecture series.
This evening, Greg will be joined by superb former England cricketers Isa Guha and Stuart Broad. Isa is a brilliant broadcaster also.
As a Year 7 student at TBSHS, Greg James scored a century, captaining his year group throughout the school and representing Hertfordshire. Inspired by drama, radio and books, Greg is now a highly respected broadcaster and author. On his journey, Greg has stayed humble and remembered his roots.
Greg is one of a plethora of former students who are making, and have made, such a positive difference to the world and others. He represents a massively bigger picture of good and great former T.B.S.H.S. students around the world.
As yesterday demonstrated, T.B.S.H.S. students who have passed away, and their inspirational legacy of love, as the highest place in our hearts.
A vital part of Greg’s regular podcast team, with musician Felix White, is the legendary bowler James Anderson, who recently took his historic 700th test match wicket. A tribute to James Anderson’s dedication, devotion, preparation, resilience and skill. Here is a beautiful montage of the world’s most successful ever fast bowler, still playing at 41: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3LBuPbA51E. Through the changing days and seasons and years, love is eternal.
