Thought For The Day – Monday 15th July 2024
Fabulous Finish
We begin our final week on London Road and deeply think about all students, staff and families who have served the school on this site for many years. The photograph above was taken this morning. Thank you to all staff so diligently packing for our new home.
The story and “The Black and Gold Spirit” will continue in September. New site, new school, same values, same passion. Memories we take with us. We owe that to the past, the present and future.
We finish well, with standards, showing our appreciation to all who make the difference, and thinking ahead to ensure we have what we need to start next season well.
Good luck to all taking part in the production of “Lord of the Flies” this evening and to those commencing the rugby tour to South Africa tomorrow.
That you to all staff, students and families for yet more truly outstanding opportunities possible. Thank you to staff for giving so generously of their time, inspiration and expertise thank you to students for their continued leadership, inspiration and participation.
Many will have followed the final of the men’s football European Championships last evening, where the best team played the most resilient team in a very tense encounter which brought so many together to create shared memories and community.
And, although those supporting England will be disappointed with the final result, with the long wait for major honours in men’s senior international football now extending to fifty-eight years for England, the ultimate key in life is whether people do their best and conduct themselves with respect, integrity and humility. The first major men’s senior final overseas was achieved for the men’s senior footballers, as it was for the women’s senior footballers last summer. Great congratulations to Spain who won both championships.
There was further brilliant British sporting success yesterday with Alfie Hewett OBE winning both the singles and doubles (once again with Gordon Reid OBE, also from the U.K.) events in the wheelchair tennis at Wimbledon.
Earlier yesterday, in a further Spanish victory, Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s singles final. The trophies were presented by the Princess of Wales on her second public appearance since being treated for cancer.
Both locally, nationally and internationally, we always keep perspective in life, doing and giving our personal and moral best and showing respect and support.
