Thought For The Day – Friday 7th March 2025
Her Game Too
Tomorrow, March 8th, is International Women’s Day.
This is a very important reminder of what should, and does, happen every day.
The vital contribution of women and girls is celebrated locally, nationally and internationally.
We reflect on those who are brilliant and outstanding female inspirations and role models to us.
This is also a day about fairness and justice. The theme of International Women’s Day 2025 is: “Accelerate Action”.
It a reminder of the vital, diverse, inclusive and on-going journey to empowerment, equality and equity, and the continuing crucial mission to stand against sexism and misogyny in every context, in person and on-line, so women and girls are treated with respect and justice.
Sexism and misogyny is illegal, immoral, toxic and totally wrong.
We are not complicit bystanders. We are upstanders for goodness and moral values. In person and on-line.
One example of this is the excellent and very appropriately titled organisation “Her Game Too”. Representatives from “Her Game Too” visited the school on Tuesday 4th March 2025 to talk with the Sixth Form at TBSHS.
On the 15th May 2021, the day of the men’s F.A. Cup Final, “Her Game Too” was launched by 12 women who posted a video to raise awareness of, and stand up to, the sexism and misogyny they had experienced at football matches.
An award-winning and truly inspirational campaign has followed. Their motto is: “Tackling sexism and championing women in sport”.
“Her Game Too”: partner with numerous football and sports teams in this country, and internationally; host annual dedicated sports fixtures; have their own superb sports kit and merchandise; feature in computer games; and organise a system of accountability for reporting, and eliminating, sexism and other abuse of all kinds. The story of “Her Game Too” is epic, showing people can positively change the world: https://www.hergametoo.co.uk/about
Representation matters. When communities see a “Her Game Too”, and an “LGBTQ+” flag, at football matches, it is empowering for those communities and for all people. It says that these communities matter, that they are included. And because these communities matter, everyone matters, including those who are members of those communities, and those who are not. It is a very powerful symbol and action. Women’s and girls’ teams are integral features of so many clubs. Chester Football Club is one of numerous and so many examples up and down the country of all these aspects, in their “Deva Stadium” and beyond.
Inclusion includes all. Exclusion excludes all.
We are very grateful to James and Finley from “Her Game Too” for visiting us earlier this week. We are very grateful to Caz May, award-winning Chief Executive Officer for “Her Game Too”, for organising the very informative, illuminating and inclusive presentation. James and Finley were authentic, brilliant, genuine, humble and inspirational advocates for “Her Game Too”. They want a fair, good and right world, for women, girls, mothers and daughters. They are allies, and upstanders, for commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community.
As one student said when they were in Year 10 in 2021: “It is not men versus women, or women versus men, it is everyone versus the problem.”
We will be raising money for “Her Game Too” this breaktime by selling pancakes and biscuits. We will save food for anyone fasting at this holy time.
Wonderfully, the colours of “Her Game Too” are also Black and Gold, as one of our speakers observed when we presented school ties afterwards.
Thank you to Zara and Miriam from TBSHS’ Sixth Form for the post below, and for all their excellent reporting on guests throughout the academic year.
