Thought For The Day – Friday 2nd February 2024
LGBTQ+ History Month
February is LGBTQ+ History Month in the U.K.
This celebrates, promotes and makes visible the brilliant contributions, experiences, history and lives of the LGBTQ+ community. It also raise awareness of significant challenges past and present.
The LGBTQ+ community is our community.
The reason LGBTQ+ history month is in February in the United Kingdom is it marks the abolition of Section 28, now twenty-one years ago, which was a law which forbade the promotion of the LGBTQ+ community.
As regards LGBTQ+ rights, there has been so much progress locally, nationally and internationally.
This is a constant journey and process of care, empathy, kindness, nurture and solidarity, as it is with all equality, diversity and inclusion.
The theme of LGBT+ history month in 2024 celebrates, and greatly respects, the contribution of the LGBTQ+ community to the vital professions of healthcare and medicine.
This theme also seeks to highlight the complex history of the LGBTQ+ community’s experience with receiving healthcare, and health inequalities the LGBTQ+ community have faced, and still face, around the world.
