Thought For The Day – Friday 17th March 2023
Faith, Hope, Love
As we move to the Spring, today is Saint Patrick’s Day and marks the death of Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick spread the Christian faith. A symbol of Ireland is the shamrock. Patrick is said to have used the shamrock a metaphor for explaining the Christian belief in the Holy Trinity (God being three “persons” in one – the caring parent, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit). The three leaves of a shamrock are also said to stand for faith, hope and love. Sometimes, a four-leaf clover can be found. The fourth leaf is said to represent good luck.
At the very beginning of this month was Saint David’s Day. St. David, the patron saint of Wales, was a monk who spread the message of Christianity and encouraged followers to care for the natural world and the environment. Symbols of Wales are the dragon, the leek and the daffodil.
Today is also Comic Relief Day. Interact will be selling cookies in the playground for this charity. No more than one cookie per person please to ensure everyone has an opportunity. We are also continuing to collect Easter eggs for our local food bank.
