Thought For The Day – Friday 12th June 2026
Looking Back, Looking Forward
Pictured above: On the occasion of the 82nd anniversary “D-Day” commemorations of the 6th of June 2026, John Green sees the name of his father, Cecil, added to the Normandy Memorial.
Cecil was mortally wounded in Normandy in the Second World War.
After learning his father’s name would be added to the memorial, and as, last Saturday, John touched the stone on which his father’s name is now beautifully inscribed, John said:
“I was really pleased, I cried. It is a strange mixture of being glad and happy and sad at the same time.”
This was a very poignant story, particularly with Father’s Day, remembered on Sunday the 21st of June, a week on Sunday, approaching.
Then, and always, we reflect on, and give thanks for giving, good, kind, loving, nurturing, resilient and respectful: biological fathers; adopted fathers; foster fathers; stepfathers; grandfathers; great grandfathers; male mentors, male role models, male community leaders.
We give thanks for all these diverse, inspirational, and respectful fathers and male role models, whether they be physically with us today, or whether they guide us from Heaven.
We continue, as best we can, in our own way, their unique Legacy.
Every day those who inspire us are always with us. In our heart and in our soul.
As we close this wonderful school week, we thank all the school community: staff; students; families.
A particular thank you to: all the staff who have organised, staff who have supervised and supported, these wonderful opportunities; and, led by Miss. Butler, the staff cover team.
We continue to be very mindful both of students giving their all in important examinations, and the examinations team who meticulously organise them.
On their final day at T.B.S.H.S., we are also most grateful for the brilliant work, expertly led by Mr. Dickens and supporting staff, of our beginning teachers from Cambridge University.
In these weeks, where students are focussed on their future career(s), we wish our guests from Cambridge University, including those who were with us in the Autumn term, every happiness and success in theirs.
