Hot on the heels of the excellent A-Level results last week, another cohort of students at The Bishop’s Stortford High School are celebrating this week, following the release of their superb GCSE results today. Having collectively achieved a whole host of top grades, the school fully justified the opening line of their recent Ofsted report, which reads: ‘Pupils achieve highly at this stunning school.’
Dale Reeve, Headteacher, commented: “For the last five years, I have seen this year group grow into a bunch of fine young men. They have a fantastic team spirit and have been incredibly supportive of each other during some very challenging times. I am, therefore, absolutely thrilled to see them collectively achieve such excellent GCSE results. They have been adversely affected by the Covid pandemic, by the tougher grade boundaries reintroduced this year and been impacted by the teacher strikes during the lead up to their exams. Significantly, they also had to cope with the shock of losing one of their close friends following the incredibly sad passing of Year 11 student, Will Scutts, in March. The boys showed great courage, maturity and determination in the face of such adversity and should be rightly proud of their achievements. As well as maintaining focus on their studies, they also continued to fully engage in our extra-curricular programme and represent the school with pride. I am really looking forward to working with so many of them in our sixth form over the next two years. My heartfelt congratulations to the boys and their parents and a huge thank you to our wonderful staff for all their hard work in inspiring the students to such success. A special mention must go to Mr Antony Ardin, Head of Year; Mrs Sharon Harris & Mrs Tina Cooper, Inclusion Managers; and the brilliant team of Year 11 tutors, for keeping the boys on track throughout the GCSE course.”
