About National Careers Week
Sponsored by The Nat West Group, National Careers Week (NCW) is a one-week celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people develop awareness and excitement about their future pathways.
NCW is a dedicated week every year for allowing schools, colleges, universities, alternative provision settings and organisations to work towards enhanced careers provision.
TBSHS will be marking the week with some special form tutor activities for Years 7-11, plus we have lots of guests coming in to talk about careers & opportunities. Here’s a quick round-up:
Form Tutor Sessions
Year 7 The World of Work – learning from Labour Market Information (LMI)
and what is the labour market of the future?
Year 8 Skills For The Future – learning about skills for the future and how they relate to
the subjects you are studying and discovering our employability skills
Year 9 What Are My Options After GCSE’s? Learning about vocational and occupational
pathways; A Levels, T Levels, Traineeships, BTECS….. jargon-busting information!
Year 10 Exploring Careers – exploring different careers to help plan for the future and discovering careers in the Priority Sector
Year 11 Occupational Pathways – learning more about the different pathways after
GCSE’s and consider which pathway is best for you
Careers Assemblies & Lunchtime Careers Workshops
Monday 6th March – lunchtime pop-up stand with
Harlow College; firstly in the Reading Garden 1pm-2pm for Year 11 then moving to Reception for Years 12-13. We look forward to seeing their Outreach Coordinator, Debbie Wallace
Tuesday 7th March – lunchtime Careers Workshop for all students with IT Vets – careers/apprenticeships in IT/Computing.
IT Vets are a local company and much in demand. We’re delighted to be welcoming Laura Rock and her colleague Paul.
Tuesday 7th March – Year 11 Assembly from Weston Homes – careers/apprenticeships in Construction. Successful local company, Weston Homes, have won many awards and received industry recognition that reflects their commitment and dedication to provide great new homes for clients. Paige Parker is our guest from Weston.
Wednesday 8th March – Price Bailey lunchtime pop-up stand in Reception for Years 12-13 – careers & apprenticeship in Tax/Accounting.
Following on from Duncan Crooks careers workshop session last week, Charlotte Waters will be our guest today.
Thursday 9th March – lunchtime Careers Workshop for all students with Deloitte – careers/apprenticeships in Finance/Tax/Auditing.
Thursday 9th March – Year 7-8 Assembly from Deloitte – careers in Finance/Business.
It’s always fantastic to welcome back ex-students and even more so when they are willing to support current students who learn of their personal career journeys and success stories. We look forward to our visit from Beth Bloomfield.
Friday 10th March – Year 9-10 Assembly from Titan Airways - careers/apprenticeships in aviation/engineering. Following a hiatus due to the pandemic, the aviation industry is thriving and Titan Airways are growing with it. Matt Gilks, Station Engineer, is our guest.
Do encourage your son/daughter to attend the workshops; not only are they great for finding out more about different roles in various sectors, but they’re a great way of making contacts for work experience and post-18 recruitment. They are very informal and fun to attend – with occasional freebies!
