A Citizenship Special – TBSHS Welcomes Clare Balding C.B.E.
Clare Balding C.B.E. is an award-winning broadcaster and author. Clare demonstrates outstanding oracy and literacy, vital skills which are at the heart of TBSHS. Clare is a brilliant and thoughtful communicator. Clare has broadcast on every Olympic Games since 1996 and on every Paralympics since 2000. Clare won BAFTA’s Special Award for her brilliant work on the London Olympics of 2012 and continues to present major events in sport, factual documentaries and Royal events, including commentary of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee for BBC One.
Clare is a passionate campaigner for equality and women’s sport. Clare is an LGBT+ advocate, leader and role model in the media, sport and society. Clare was recently President of the Rugby League Football Union.
Clare is also a best-selling, prolific and award-winning author of numerous books and children’s novels. Clare’s autobiography is called “My Family and Other Animals”, reflecting her passion for the wider environment, animals and nature. Clare is a former horse rider. Clare’s latest book, “Isle of Dogs”, explores the numerous and wonderful roles dogs fulfil in the past and present of the U.K. Her 2021 children’s book, “Fall Off, Get Back On, Keep Going” tells inspirational stories of resilience, including from her own life. Clare has led much charity in work, particularly in the field of cancer, which she has suffered from, and animals, nature and the environment.
Clare was awarded a C.B.E. for Services to Sport and Charity, which she was honoured to receive at Buckingham Palace, in December 2022.
