Thought For The Day – Thursday 9th July 2026
A New Dawn
At home, in school, and in the community, please continue to stay safe, looking out for others, and yourself, in the current heatwave.
Today, on “Transition Day”, the new Year 7 students, currently in Year 6, visit The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
This evening, their carers, guardians, and parents will be welcomed by the School, as they experience the very important “Transition Information Evening”.
As their vibrant uniforms will today show, from their wonderful Primary Schools, our new students will illuminate the School, bringing character, and colour, to T.B.S.H.S., as they commence their exciting “Black, Gold, and Green” journey.
A new dawn.
It will be epic.
New chapters, books, and stories will be written.
Do we remember our first day at The Bishop’s Stortford High School?
Metaphorically, we place ourselves in our new students’ shoes, with a spirit of empathy, inclusion, respect, support, and understanding.
Please both: make our new students feel welcome; and model the standards, and values, that are so integral to The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
Students brilliantly, compassionately, inclusively, morally, and wisely leading other students.
We never forget that, at T.B.S.H.S., Year 7 inspire and lead, just as Year 13 inspire and lead.
One of the key game-changing contributions in the final games which propelled the Arsenal men’s football team to winning the English Premier League was from Max Dowman, a G.C.S.E. student, aged 16, born in Chelmsford, in a “home” match against Everton, where was an impactful substitute: Max Dowman: Watch every touch teenager made against Everton | Football News | Sky Sports
Last season, Max Dowman became the youngest-ever Premier League player, goalscorer, and title winner.
A true team involves, and needs, everyone.
Old and young.
Today will see yet another example of T.B.S.H.S. in action.
This is us.
Our School.
Our Community.
Our Environment.
As those inspirational and wonderful “Tidy Up Bishop’s Stortford” litter pickers (pictured below), safely caring for the community in the very significant heat, superbly demonstrated last evening.
Thank you very much to everyone involved in “Transition Day” today.
