Thought For The Day – Wednesday 24th September 2025
Language Care
Languages Week at T.B.S.H.S. continues today.
Thanks you to the Languages department, yesterday’s “dates in different languages” for the five lessons were:
Chinese: 2025年9月23日星期二
Vietnamese: Thứ ba ngày 23 tháng 9 năm 2025
Arabic: الثلاثاء 23 سبتمبر 2025
Ukrainian: вівторок, 23 вересня 2025 року
Greek: is Τρίτη, 23 Σεπτεμβρίου 202
It was fascinating to learn in a Year 7 class how many different languages students can speak.
A little classroom represented most of the vast world’s continents.
We are citizens of T.B.S.H.S. and our local community and neighbourhood. We are citizens of the U.K. We are citizens of the world.
And, as two students reminded us, one student which knows some of this language, Sign Language is, of course, equally important, if not even more so.
For we remember that we think of the word “language” in its broadest sense.
“Body language”.
The “language” of art, design, drama and music.
The “language” of culture.
The “language” of computing, economics, mathematics and science.
The “language” of silence.
The “language” of empathy.
The “language” of care, compassion and love.
We remember those who communicate in diverse, wonderful and other ways.
We remember those who are voiceless.
We give voice to the voiceless.
Words very much matter.
It is important they are accurate, caring, fair, kind, respectful, thoughtful and truthful.
Words must always heal. Words must never hurt.
Words must always respect. Words must never disrespect.
Words must always love. Words must never hate.
And our actions reflect our words and thoughts.
And our words and thoughts reflect our actions.
And it is important we think before we speak, write and act.
Holding ourselves to the measure of “The Golden Rule” – treating others as we wish ourselves to be treated.
This Harvest, we are collecting for “Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank”, in memory of the late Norma Symonds.
Please bring any allergy-free and safe items to Room C05.
The words below may just be words to us, items we may take for granted.
To others, the words below, if accompanied by actions, mean the absolute world.
