Thought For The Day – Tuesday 6th May 2025
Thank You Year 11
We hope you had a very good Bank Holiday weekend.
Yesterday saw the beginning of celebrations and commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of V.E. Day, honouring “The Greatest Generation”. We will continue to remember throughout this week, and beyond, especially on the anniversary itself of the 8th of May.
Today we say a sincere thank you to Year 11 students as they have their final timetabled lessons before a final “leavers’ assembly”, and then the commencement of “study leave”, in advance of the rest, and most, of their G.C.S.E. public examinations.
Year 11 students joined T.B.S.H.S in September 2020, in a global pandemic. This was very challenging in the so vital and foundational Year 7 time. Characteristically, these students, then the youngest in the school, positively, resiliently and thoughtfully responded. Throughout their time at the School, this group have demonstrated inspirational “Black and Gold” standards and care in and outside of the classroom, in the extra-curricular, in the curricular and in the wider community. Year 11 students were key in the School’s renaissance after the pandemic. They experienced the old school and the new school, leading in both. The school values of commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity and community were demonstrated by Year 11 students, building on the great legacy bequeathed by wonderful year groups that had gone before. Year 11 students finish this particular match with good grace today. Respect all the officials, players, staff and supporters.
We equally pay tribute to students who joined us on the journey, locally, nationally and internationally, in Year 7 or afterwards, and those students who had bereavement, health, injury or life challenges. All students were inspirational. Some had particularly inspirational stories. Players greatly inspire coaches and staff.
We thank: all Year 11 students; their wonderful carers and families (to whom we always owe everything); and TBSHS’ dedicated and devoted staff, in every area of the school, present and past.
A further thank you for the outstanding leadership of Mr. Reeve, Mr. Harvey, Mrs. Butler, the Senior Leadership Team, Mr. Kelsall (Head of Year 11), Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Waldock (Inclusion Managers), all Form Tutors and the Registration and Careers Teams.
Many students will hopefully return to T.B.S.H.S in the Sixth Form. Some students have decided to start a new story. From London Road to Beaumont Avenue, and wherever students are in the world, and in their very good and kind futures, this will always be their, and your, School.
We wish all students the very best in their G.C.S.E. examinations and beyond.
In life, and beyond, each name is a sacred and unique individual with a story. Each person is absolutely irreplaceable and inspirational.
It took, and takes, everyone.
Thank you very much for everything to (in alphabetical form registration order by surname):

Now let’s go GCSEs 2025, in our new air-conditioned Sports Hall. Answer the question. Show what you know. Leave it all in the examination room. Play to “the final whistle”. Never, ever give up. Time to shine. Again. Remember the advice given. Respect the examinations.
All that ultimately matters is: Do, and give, your best; keep perspective; look after others and yourself; prioritise health, resilience and wellbeing; treat others as you yourself wish to be treated; remember your roots; represent yourself, your family and those who care for you, and those who you care for, by paying back, paying forward and spreading the Love.
