Thought For The Day – Tuesday 6th January 2026
New Beginnings
Happy New Year. Happy New Term.
We hope you, and your families, had a happy and healthy holiday. We hope you have been able do something for others.
We are very mindful that, and sensitive to, that this time would not have been an easy time for many in our school, in our local area, in the U.K. and around the world,
But seemingly small positive actions, and interactions, make a very big difference.
It is cold outside, but warm in our hearts.
A new year, and term, presents new opportunities and beginnings.
But, like any new experience, the start will be measured, thoughtful, and watchful.
Respect, by all, and for all, will, as always, be key.
We closed the last term with wonderful, and representative, editions of: our Advent and Christmas Services, Awards Evening, Final Assembly and “The Mitre” magazine.
These events, and all they communicated and documented, can inspire us to even greater heights.
It took everyone to make these memories and moments.
In our journey then, and in days to come, there will, undoubtedly and once again, be challenges.
Honesty, humility, resilience, reflection, support, and doing our best, will be very important.
Last evening was “Twelfth Night”, marking the last day, and night, of Christmas festivities.
But, as the decorations are put away for what we hope will be another year, and cards and memories are cherished, we keep the spirit of Love very much going.
Today, the 6th of January, marks Epiphany, meaning manifestation and revelation, for many Christians. There will be celebrations all around the world. This marks the visit of The Magi, or wise people, from the East, to Jesus, born in the most humble of circumstances.
In Ancient Rome, January was named after Janus, a mythological figure of two faces, looking back and looking forward, which represents new beginnings, gateways and transitions, based on past experiences.
At T.B.S.H.S., we are always guided by our school motto of: “Respice, Aspice, Prospice”.
Both for yourself and, even more importantly, for others, what do you wish to achieve this year and this term?
