Thought For The Day – Tuesday 25th March 2025
Continuing The Inspiration
The very best way of continuing the wonderful legacy of those we love, and those who have inspired us, is to continue their witness and work. For they always watch down on, guide and inspire us. The very best way of paying back is to pay forward. In that way, their outstanding influence continues as we share their actions, legacy, love and story.
Tomorrow, in this message, we will celebrate the outstanding “TBSHS Sixth Form Charities’ Day”, dedicated to former students who have passed away from this life.
Thank you to the following students: Mehmet T (Year 12), Fin M (Year 11), Fiore A (Year 10), Alex M (Year 9), Charlie C (Year 9), Dylan D (Year 9), George C-W (Year 9), Hari S (Year 9), Mayon A (Year 9), Oscar W (Year 9), Guy S-B (Year 8), Harry W (Year 8), Alex C (Year 7), Louis B (Year 7) and Theo T-R (Year 7). Through bag packing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday 23rd March, in different time slots, at “Waitrose” in Bishop’s Stortford, these students of TBSHS, smartly attired in school uniform, collectively raised £615 for “Rotary’s Christmas Collections”. This unique project provides vouchers for those in need in our local area. Also importantly, many people had a great Sunday, whether they donated or not. Richard Hartley, of Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club, wrote last evening: “This is a truly great sum and I am very grateful to the team. A very big thank you to you all, I am most grateful.”
The motto of Rotary and Interact is: “Service Above Self”.
Congratulations also to Interact inspirations Fin Macfie and Isaac Jones, pictured last Friday below, who have been raising money themselves in the past few weeks outside school. Both students have humbly and resiliently demonstrated such exceptional citizenship and community leadership of their own initiative and volition, whilst continuing to demonstrate excellent standards in lessons and around school.
After listening to former men’s rugby union international Alix Popham’s experience with dementia in the summer, Fin Macfie, of Year 11, has recently been cycling a magnificent 1189 miles (1913 kilometers) at his home, the distance between John O’Groats and Land’s End, from one part of the U.K. to another. Fin, who has met Alix, has taken things step by step, pedal by pedal, proving that you do not have to travel very far to go very far. Monies raised go to Alix’s charity “Head For Change”, which Fin is an official ambassador for. Here is Fin’s webpage: https://www.justgiving.com/page/fin-macfie-1?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL
An equal legend of the school is Isaac Jones, of Year 10. Isaac has been brilliantly involved with one of the most wonderful places, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Inspired by Fin, Isaac has superbly swam 8 kilometers to raise monies for GOSH. Here is Isaac’s webpage: https://fundraise.gosh.org/fundraisers/isaacjones
Both these students have raised incredible sums and, crucially, even more awareness.
If you would like to raise money for, or awareness of, a charity, in school, or beyond, please attend Interact on Wednesdays at 1:15 in Room 05 with Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club. We are currently collecting Easter eggs for our local food bank.
