The Spirit Of The Game

Under the always wise and committed leadership and guidance of Mr. Hale, and the Physical Education Department, who continually offer so very many opportunities to all students in the school, with the grounds immaculately prepared as ever by Mr. Trigg (Jobbers Wood is like a bowling green), the senior cricketers of the school achieved a fine victory against the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (M.C.C.) yesterday.
M.C.C. is the oldest and most active cricket club in the world. M.C.C. is the owner of Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, “the home of cricket”, as well as being the guardian of the laws of the game. The club has significant global influence in cricket, with a mission to spread “The Spirit of the Game of Cricket”.
M.C.C. were captained yesterday by Simon McConnell. Simon is a former student of the school, attending the school between 2001 and 2008. Simon was one of the most outstanding student leaders, especially in cricket, where he was absolutely brilliant from Year 7 onwards, both in terms of tactics, resilience, motivation, inclusion and leading by humble and committed example. Simon’s enlightened, enthusiastic, passionate, thoughtful, inclusive and good-humoured leadership were again in evidence yesterday.
Congratulations to the senior cricketers of the school, and the P.E. staff, for their outstanding and famous win yesterday, and how they conducted themselves.
Thank you to M.C.C. for their continued great sportspersonship, inclusion and inspiration.
