Do Not Forget About Literacy
When we are sitting examinations, and in our lives, it is important that we do not forget about literacy.
Coherent, good, and legible literacy is essential for clear and correct communication. It gains very positive credit in examinations and in life.
Examination responses; job applications; company reports; supportive messages; congratulations, thank you, good luck, birthday, and sympathy cards.
Words matter.
In person. On paper. In print
Kind and respectful words matter even more so.
Of course, each, and every, subject has its own language, as we hinted in this message yesterday.
Learning key facts, quotes, and words is an essential form of revision. Not least because, in their questions, the examiners use such language.
However, beyond that, there is an overarching literacy generally language being utilised.
Mrs. Miles, Miss. Bishop, and Mrs. Mac. have brilliantly created a wonderful guide, to help us all, in consultation with the English department and all the staff.
Every classroom has a laminated copy of this important tool, pictured above.
In all of this, reading remains important. This is the training for literacy.
We live in a very visual world, we always have, and this is excellent when appropriate.
And, whilst people communicate in many different ways, of choice and necessity, the vital importance of the appropriate written word for education and life still remains.
Finally, those constant checks in, and proofreading of, everything we do, including in examinations, and of these messages here, is crucial.
