Thought For The Day – Thursday 11th September 2025
Remembering
Today, we remember: those who died on; suffered because of; and were emergency responders to; the terrorist attacks in, and on, the United States of America of the 11th of September 2001.
As school came to a close on that day, news started to spread at The Bishop’s Stortford High School about such devastating and very grave events in the United States.
Over the years, the School have hosted two survivors of the attacks of the 11th of September 2001, including the inspirational Janice Brooks.
Today we remember and think about all victims of evil and violence. Terrorism and violence is evil and wrong beyond words.
Earlier this year, we remembered the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on, and in, London of the 7th of July 2005. In a very moving moment in the national commemoration service at Saint Paul’s Cathedral, the names of the 52 people killed were read out, as 52,000 white petals symbolically fell from the dome of St. Paul’s. The readers were: Saba Edwards, whose mother Behnaz Mozakka was one of the victims; and Thelma Stober, who was injured by the attacks when Thelma was thrown underneath a train: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cvgw1d17nl3o
Later in the United States of America, this afternoon U.K. time, the names of 2,983 people killed on the 11th of September 2001 will be read out, and remembered, by family members, friends, supporters and colleagues.
Every name: a family; a life; a story; a unique, and sacred, personality.
Every name: a photograph; a picture; and a memory.
Every name: someone who will never, ever be forgotten.
Every name: a legacy.
Every name: still, and always, spiritually, with their family and friends.
Every name: a heart and a soul.
We hope, and pray, families will be reunited in The Next Life, where there will be no more tears.
To remember is to very deeply respect.
To remember is to listen.
To remember to be still and quiet.
To remember is to smile and cry.
To remember is to show care and compassion to those suffering.
To remember is to work for peace and justice.
To remember is to continue the legacy.
To remember is to truly love.
