Thought For The Day – Monday 24th March 2025
Umbrellas
“The Umbrella Project”, a charity, has organised hundreds of brightly coloured umbrellas to be suspended above a city shopping centre in Milton Keynes for six months. Umbrellas have been displayed in Watford and Stoke in previous years. Four hundred umbrellas, covering 860 square metres, will be on display.
This instillation highlights the importance of celebrating, and embracing, Neurodiversity.
For Neurodiversity is an “umbrella term”, a word that sums up many inclusive and diverse aspects. Underneath the “umbrella” are a wide spectrum of Neurodivergent experiences, including Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Tourette’s and Dyslexia and many more experiences.
We are all Neurodiverse, for no two people, or their brains, are the same.
Some people, between 15-20% of the population, have particular experiences, gifts, stories and superpowers.
Further, as Jane Lambert from “The Umbrella Project” states:
“An umbrella provides protection, much like the Neurodiversity movement advocates for acceptance, understanding, and inclusion.”
