Thought For The Day – Monday 13th July 2026
Running Through The Tape
“Running through the tape” is an athletics term. “Running through the tape” means to give maximum commitment all the way to, and through, the finish line. “Running through the tape” is the opposite to slowing down as the finish line approaches. Such an attitude, and ethos, applies equally to life, and work, as we give our all and our very best, until an endeavour, or a task, is complete.

Thank you to students and staff for a wonderful Sports Day on Friday.
On “fields of gold”, athletes, wonderfully encouraged by all, safely gave everything in very warm conditions.
The values of T.B.S.H.S., commitment, aspiration, respect, integrity, and community, brilliantly and vividly shone in the bright sunshine.
As did the Equality Values of the School.
“Sports Day” was a microcosm of “The Black, Gold, and Green Spirit”.
The pacy Sports Day extravaganza flew by as much as the student performances in the various events.
Thank you to Mr. Harris, Mr. Hale, and the Physical Education department for their meticulous organisation and the opportunities given on Friday, and indeed throughout the year. Thank you especially this term to the Athletics Club and Team, led by Mr. Kelsall, Mr. Sadler, Mr. Munro, Mr. Stanger, and Mr. Lane.
Student leadership was essential to Sports Day, with the Sixth Form once again playing a vital part. This time announcing and officiating.
Sports Day was a further testimony to the engaging and inclusive House system, led with outstanding commitment and creative ideas by Mr. Blake, Mr. Griffiths, the Heads of House, and the House Presidents.
Certainly, students and staff feel an important sense of belonging to, and pride in and of, their House.
We will await the results of Sports Day and the House Championship with great excitement in Final Assembly in seven and a half school days.
This dramatic culmination, which integrates the academic and the extra-curricular, and where year groups vertically support other each other across and above the School, was a initial vision articulated Mr. Reeve and Mr. Hows, as students found a further home at T.B.S.H.S. in their House.
The plethora of House events continue with the finals of the House Quiz tomorrow. Thank you to Mr. Fraser for all the opportunities in continues to provide in oracy, whether it be in students answering challenging questions, delivering thoughtful speeches, or passionately debating issues.
Like the events on Sports Day, particularly all students who ran in lengthy races, all of us need to dig deep, finding that extra energy, and finishing well from now until the end of term. Running through the tape. Every ounce of effort matters and nothing is ever wasted. We always support each other in such challenges. Like on Sports Day.
