Thought For The Day – Friday 20th March 2026
Ethos
It has been another momentous week, which has demonstrated the ethos, and the values, of The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
From: another fine music concert last evening; to the county cup final tonight, and house football tomorrow; to charity work, very importantly in loving memory of students who have passed away from this life, helping those in need; to continuing engagement, progress, and vital coursework and examination preparation, in lessons.
In all of this, the key word is respect.
Respect for the unsung heroes of carers, guardians, and parents.
Respect for all staff in every area of T.B.S.H.S..
Respect for all students.
Respect for the environment and all those who, and that, inhabit it.
Respect for our past, present, and future.
Respect for those we know.
Respect for those we do not know.
Respect for ourselves as unique and sacred persons and individuals.
And it has been a momentous week for Greg James, our former student, who has, so far, raised over £2.5 million for Comic Relief.
Today marks the final day of Greg’s epic “The Longest Ride” challenge. We have sent our very best wishes to Greg for his continued inspiration. “Go Well”, Greg.
Interact will be donating monies from cookie sales today, and last week, to “Comic Relief”. Thank you to Mr. Cooper, as always.
Greg is pictured below with William, the Prince of Wales, who joined him on day five of his challenge this week, and with the inspirational Mr. Hows, and Greg’s co-author Chris Smith, signing certificates for House Drama last year.
Greg has never forgotten his roots. He always respects The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
We always remember where we start.
When we need resilience, we dig deep and look inside ourselves: to our personal life story; to our memories, moments, and inspirations; and to those we love and those who love and have loved us. Greg is cycling inspired by his wonderful family, especially his brilliant dad, Alan, who is very unwell in hospital.
