Thought For The Day – Friday 17th July 2026
Run The World Cup
We are back in smart school uniform today.
Thank you for the standards and spirit yesterday.
As always, thank you to the staff.
We continue to finish the academic year well.
Many may have been disappointed with the football result on Wednesday evening. Heads up. On to the next challenge. The time will, eventually, come.
France, and England, may not have qualified for the men’s World Cup Final, the play-off for third, and forth place, the bronze medal match, awaits in Miami on Saturday for these two fine teams, but we can still, collectively here at T.B.S.H.S., contribute something very important connected to Sunday’s culmination.
Since the commencement of the tournament, Fin Macfie, a Year 12 student at T.B.S.H.S., has been leading a challenge called “Run The World Cup”.
This entails members of our community collectively running , or walking, 4,230 kilometres.
This is the distance from Mexico City, where the tournament began, to New York City, the location of Sunday’s final.
Both iconic cities are pictured above.
New York City has, of course, provided the stunning backdrop to I.T.V.’s coverage of the World Cup. New York is said to be “the city that never sleeps”.
Mexico City provided a memorable and historic moment for the England team in this current World Cup, with the citizens of Mexico, even more importantly, demonstrating wonderful hospitality and respect.
We are also proud of our community, location, and geography, here in Bishop’s Stortford, the surrounding area, and at The (new) Bishop’s Stortford High School.
The challenge Fin is leading contributes awareness and monies to “Head for Change”, a charity supporting, and researching, sports-related brain injuries.
Fin is an Ambassador for “Head For Change”.
If you have walked, or ran, any distance in the last month, or from today until the Final, please let Fin Macfie, Mr. Dickens, or your form tutor know.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
