Thought For The Day – Friday 10th May 2024
Thank You Year 13
Today sees the final assembly for Year 13.
We massively thank, appreciate, and never forget, every single student who were here in earlier years, who represented the school and who exemplified the meaning of “Black and Gold”.
In the summer of 2022, after many GCSE examinations, outside after students had left the examination room, this cohort emerged saying “110”, meaning 110% commitment. Excellent actions backed up these inspirational words. Positive momentum was built which carried, and looked after, all. Teamwork made the dream work.
We pay equal tribute to every single student who joined, and brilliantly enhanced, TBSHS in the sixth form. Thank you so much for choosing us at Induction, and beyond. You totally led the way and brought your outstanding expertise, skills and spirit too. You made us better. Your superb contributions are very, very much appreciated.
You all brightly shone, like a diamond, in the many areas and dimensions of school life: showing passion for your subjects and the school in class, in the Library, in the Turing Suite, in the Sixth Form Centre and at home; with careers, college, employment and university opportunities; in exceptional sport, music, drama, debating, public speaking and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award; in caring and wise student leadership, mentorship and guidance; in the positive plethora and perspective of charity, community, department and enrichment opportunities and visits.
You will have your own personal and community memories, and like many memories they can be of something seemingly ordinary that was symbolically extraordinary. Like any person, your deepest, greatest and most profound achievement was when times were most challenging, the challenges that people embrace and face with dignity, emotional intelligence, grace, humility, love, peace and quietness. You were there for each other. Keep treasuring one another. Keep showing your awesome talent, and spirit, in your examinations, and beyond. “110”. Keep doing you. Always.
We pay massive tribute to: Mr. Reeve; Mr. Munro and all the Sixth Form Management Team past and present, including Ms. Goan, for all their truly outstanding work; Mr. Stark, former Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Headteacher; your tutors past and present; and Mrs. Price and Mrs. Jonas, who do so much to inspire and lead your great futures. All these pastoral leaders and staff, and your teachers, deserve your very biggest and loudest round of applause and gratitude at the assembly today.
We also equally, and massively, thank: Mr. Sadler, Head of Year; former members of staff Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Marlow and tutors (the sixth form culture is built in year 7 and 8 in so very many ways); the Senior Management Team who inspire, lead and manage the school with Mr. Reeve; and all subject staff and all staff, in every single part of the school, many behind the scenes, who set the stage for you to excel, express yourself and perform, and cared for, encouraged, guided, inspired and nurtured you along the journey. They gave, and give, to you. You gave, and give, to them.
We always remember our roots: our nurseries and primary schools; our local community groups; our carers, family, friends and parents. We aim to pay forward what they gave to us, spreading the love to all, helping and lifting others to rise up, treating others as we wish to be treated.
Most importantly of all, as we strive to be a good person, we remember every single day those who have inspired us, and will always inspire us. Their legacy of light and love will always be part of us and will always be with us. We always remember our wonderful former student, Albie, who, with his family, epitomised and epitomises the “Black and Gold”. Albie passed away four years ago on Sunday.
Every person is sacred, special, unique, valued and valuable. Every person is cherished, loved and remembered. Keep doing you, keep being good and keep inspiring, and helping, others.
You, and your families, will always have a home and a special place at The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
