Thought For The Day – Wednesday 7th December 2022
Shaking The World
Saturday 3rd December was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The theme was: “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world.”
Chris Foster studied at TBSHS from 2001 to 2006. He played in school football and cricket teams. He played football in lunch times in the cage. He represented his country at three sports, including swimming and cricket. He is now a professional golfer. Chris achieved all these things despite having one leg amputated at the age of 9 years old, something he never got down about. In 2022, Chris played in the Cairns Cup between Europe and the United States. Here is his 2022 profile on the official competition website: https://www.thecairnscup.com/player/chris-foster/
On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, former NBA basketball player John Amaechi OBE tweeted below about the importance of representation. He linked to a recent advert created by “Apple”, other equally good technical products are available, called “The Greatest”. It features the words of Muhammad Ali and many inspirational, inclusive, representational examples:
The advert with audio descriptions:
Keep shaking the world. Ability not disability. Respect not ableism. Keep including seeing, including and being inspired by everyone. Let’s go.
