Thought For The Day – Wednesday 5th November 2025
Student Leadership
We are pumped and ready to go for Sixth Form Open Evening, the biggest evening of the year at the School.
This is a further (black and) golden opportunity to showcase what we, and you, do inside and outside the classroom.
The academic dimension, showing passion for subjects, will always be absolutely vital, but extra-curricular, community and life opportunities are also very important. Underpinning everything is good culture and values.
To facilitate Sixth Form Open Evening, school will finish at 1:15 p.m. today, with students: leaving the school tidy to help caretakers and cleaners; making their way safely home; always showing respect in the community.
For students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, and any in Years 11, 12 and 13, not involved tonight, this early finish is an excellent opportunity to: get up to date with academic work; ensure arrangements are made to secure your poppy for next week; consider entering the “Black History Month” opportunity by Friday.
When all students return to school tomorrow, students should remember, and respect, others, including the staff, will have been working late for the benefit of the whole community.
In very many ways, the Sixth Form lead the way at our school. A great Sixth Form benefits everyone. Indeed, in its history, the progress and positivity of The Bishop’s Stortford High School mirrors, and replicates, that of the Sixth Form.
Tonight is yet another opportunity for outstanding student leadership, supported by staff. All are inspirational.
We very much welcome our Year 11 guests, from T.B.S.H.S. and beyond, and their families. We are outward-looking, learning, and respecting, others. We listen to their stories. We wish Year 11 students well in all their G.C.S.E. examinations.
We are mindful that it is a very challenging time for all Year 11 students across the country who are both preparing for mock, and final, examinations and thinking about their futures beyond Year 11 at the same time.
And, at T.B.S.H.S., we never forget that we are an equal, diverse, and inclusive community. We are not “the boys’ high school”.
All students in all years can lead, massively inspired by the Sixth Form.
We greatly thank Sixth Form students past, present and future, and the staff who lead and work with the Sixth Form, for all they do for all of us.
A new generation will join us this evening: to write their verse, chapter, book and story; to inspire, support and give back.
