Thought For The Day – Wednesday 30th April 2025
Growth
The word “growth” originates from the ancient word, “grōwan”, meaning to grow, increase and flourish.
We grow as individuals. We grow as a community.
We grow as a community, because we grow as individuals.
We grow as individuals. because we grow as a community.
Such growth happens every hour, day, week and year. Every moment, if we are granted it, is an opportunity for growth. Every day is a new start. Every day is as precious as everything, and everyone, in, and on, that day.
Growth is not just growth of the individual. It is growth for all.
But growth is not always, seldom, or ever, a straight path. More of a “long and winding road”.
Steps back. Steps forward. Steps back to step forward so very often. With the support of others, with the belief of ourselves. Often we grow the very most in times when it seems we are growing the very least.
“Growth” is also a key economic term, as well as a focus of wellbeing. The two are holistically connected. Growth for all.
In these Summer times, as we head into May tomorrow, it is interesting to reflect, in our much cooler school, on our growth as individuals and as a community this academic year so far.
And, of course, our new school facility is a very powerful symbol, and reality, of such evolution and planning. Continued to thanks to all who made this dream and vision brilliant reality.
Just as the environment around our school quietly grows, so all inside the school grow.
Such growth needs nurtured: in our compassion, empathy, humility, kindness and love; in our personal and collective family, community and professional relationships; in our care for our environment, for each other and for ourselves.
We all have our personal stories of growth. Stories perhaps only known to our nearest and dearest, or perhaps only known to ourselves.
In the next few days, Year 11 and Year 13 students will reflect on their growth in their time in the school, before they continue their external examinations in earnest.
Thank you to all in our school community, and beyond, for individual and collective growth.
Well done to Year 10 for their growth in, and through, important examinations this week.
Keep going. Keep growing.
