Doing The Extra
At TBSHS, and in life, we do the extra.
With your studies and in form time, you do the extra. Doing extra planning. Writing and proofreading extra sentences, paragraphs. and pages. Showing extra working. Providing extra compositions, concepts, creations, designs, ideas, pictures, plans, quotations and scientific evidence. Giving extra facts, reasons and subject vocabulary in both individual and group oracy and literacy. Asking extra questions. Doing extra reading and research. Giving extra effort and going into extra depth in homework, private study and revision. Going on extra, and inclusive, educational visits. Engaging with extra guest speakers.
Doing the extra also and equally refers to the school’s extensive extra-curricular programme. Here there is also something for everybody. The extra-curricular programme provides extra and further opportunities for achievement, community, diversity, engagement, enjoyment, giving back to the school, learning, resilience, responsibility, skill development and variety.
Doing the extra also means looking out for, and caring about, other people and ourselves, staying healthy, respectful and safe in person and on-line.
So often, it is the little things in life, those extra experiences and seemingly little acts of kindness, that make that extra difference and give those extra special memories and moments in life.
Doing the extra does not mean perfectionism.
Doing the extra means just doing our very best, being the very best version of ourselves, running our best race, just running our race.
We are all equal, diverse, precious, special and unique. We are all together.
There can be no better setting for doing the extra than our new school. A visionary project conceived, secured, designed and delivered by those who are a great definition of doing the extra.
And, if things do go well, because of doing the extra, we stay grounded and humble, giving extra help and support to others.
None of all this is possible without the extra inspiration, leadership and nurture of dedicated staff in every area of school life and, as always, carers, parents and guardians at home.
And, if we ever need any extra motivation for doing the extra, it is to them we look.
We go again today.
We do, and be, the extra.
