Thought For The Day – Tuesday 23rd September 2025 – Languages Week
Languages Week
This week is Languages Week at T.B.S.H.S.
Thank you to Mr. Alexander, Mrs. Chataigner, the Languages department and the Languages student leaders and ambassadors.
To celebrate the week, there will be the date in a different language for each lesson; a bake off; and an assembly.
We might reflect, for example, on the preparation required to give an accurate and checked date for the 25 student lessons in the timetable this week.
Or, further, for example, we appreciate all the Exchange Visits the Languages department so marvellously offer.
A true promotion of mutual understanding, listening and learning.
We will not spoil the surprise of today’s offering. However, yesterday’s “same dates in a different language” were:
- Icelandic: mánudaginn 22. september 2025
- Italian: lunedì 22 settembre 2025
- Turkish: 22 Eylül Pazartesi 2025
- Portuguese: segunda-feira, 22 de setembro 2025
- Romanian: Luni, 22 septembrie 2025
Unity and diversity.
Diversity and unity.
T.B.S.H.S. is multi-lingual. Many languages are known, and communicated in, by students.
This reflects society as a whole. Past, present and future.
Through languages, we learn about local, national and global, culture.
For languages and cultures open up the world.
Languages are an inspirational, welcoming and wonderful escape and a journey.
And they are a caring and loving home.
Languages are an exciting new opportunity.
And they are our roots.
Languages are the air and the sky.
And they are the earth and the ground.
Languages are outer, and inner, appreciation and reflection.
Through languages, we learn more about others.
And through languages, we learn more about our ourselves.
As the German writer, scientist and leader said Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said:
“Those who know nothing of foreign languages know nothing of their own”.
