Thought For The Day – Monday 6th October 2025
Community
The word “community” is derived from two Latin words.
“Communitas” means “public spirit”.
“Communis” means “common or shared”.
In the root of the latter Latin word, “con” means with or together, whilst “munus” means “gift” or “service”.
Such derivations and definitions are most apt.
Community is the “gift” or “service” of “being together”, or “being with”.
Community creates “public spirit”, by definition.
We experience this in so many areas of our lives.
And, even more importantly and vitally, we ensure others have the gift of community and service.
In such a way we build spirit and togetherness. This is even more important in times of challenge.
We treat others as we wish to be treated.
We see ourselves in others.
We see others in ourselves.
Thank you very much to all who have given so generously and humbly to “Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank”.
Every item makes a difference.
There will be a final opportunity to donate to Room C05 in the next couple of days.
