Thought For The Day – Monday 23rd February 2026
Happy New Half-Term
We hope you had a happy and healthy half-term holiday.
Thank you to all who participated in educational visits last week, as “the Black and Gold Spirit” was taken far and wide. Thank you to all who organized, and supervised, these wonderful opportunities, giving so very generously of their time and expertise. Thank you to carers, guardians, and parents for their continued support.
A new-half term commences this week, particularly led by important events and opportunities at T.B.S.H.S., as we look forward to the promise of Spring.
Firstly, Year 9 examinations begin today. Students should give of, and do, their very best, pacing themselves throughout the week, looking after themselves and others, and forging the examination resilience, responsibility, and respect which will be vital in the years to come.
Secondly, Year 13 will receive their mock or practice examination results, with an accompanying academic consultation evening, this week. With G.C.S.E. , and Year 13 examinations under 80 days away now, and Year 10 examinations even less, including weekends and holidays, focused preparation will be important to ensure summer success. We will need to, calmly, compassionately, and kindly, make every single day count.
Thirdly, our wonderful Musical Festival takes place this week and next. As always, thank you to the Music department for their inspiration, organization, enrichment, and soundtracks. Extra-curricular opportunities develop, and enhance, the individual and the community. These important activities provide a healthy, holistic, happy, and vital balance.
Fourthly, all these values also characterize the opportunities the Languages department give, as we host and warmly welcome our wonderful guests at The Bishop’s Stortford High School as part of the German exchange.
Fifthly, all students, and staff, will have their own personal targets this week and this half-term, inside and outside school, as we all seek to run our very best race in the days to come.
Finally, at this time, we are very mindful of very significant religious and cultural events that commenced last week, and point to a Higher Purpose: Christians observing Lent; Muslims observing Ramadan; and those continuing to mark the Lunar new year.
