Thought For The Day – Friday 9th January 2026
Brian Edwards
The sign of the accurate and truthful scholar is that they acknowledge and reference their footnotes and sources. A key attribute of a good person of integrity is that they acknowledge and reference their debt to others, paying their legacy forward.
Today, we remember Mr. Brian Edwards, who passed away on the 9th of January 2021, aged 84.
A large group of students, former and then current, paid their respects to Mr. Edwards, attending an on-line broadcast, owing to the global pandemic, of Brian’s funeral
Brian Edwards was a key member of Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club.
Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club do outstanding work in the community. The motto of Rotary, an international organization, is: “Service Above Self”. In visits very kindly organised by Mr. Hartley, Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club visit each week. We hosted Mr. Stock, for example, this week.
In his distinguished and greatly respected professional career of electrical and electronic engineering, his massive contribution to our local community, and even more importantly, through his wonderful family, Brian Edwards was a great, and inspirational, citizen. Brian wore his greatness lightly, making others feel special.
In relation to “The Black and Gold Spirit”, Brian was vital in establishing the Interact Charity Club at T.B.S.H.S. in 1991, thirty-five years ago. Further, Brian set up the Honours Board, now in the Dining Hall, which pays tribute to the school legends of Interact. Brian greatly encouraged students, always advising the taking, and giving of, responsibility. and the setting of timelines and deadlines.
At The Bishop’s Stortford High School, Brian’s legacy lives on through Interact today.
Brian would certainly be very proud of the students who raised over £1,100 for Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club’s “Christmas Collections Project” through bag packing.
Brian would be very impressed with the Community of T.B.S.H.S., which raised over £1,400 for The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in November.
Lights and inspirations in our lives always guide us.
As we stay safe today, this weekend, and always, we think of those in need and those lights and inspirations in our lives.
We give back and pay forward
