Thought For The Day – Tuesday 5th November 2024
The Poppy Appeal at TBSHS
“The Poppy Appeal” at TBSHS begins today.
Thank you very much to Interact student leaders Fin Macfie, Joshua Tingley, Isaac Tracey, Matthew Furrer, Isaac Jones and Oliver Berry.
If you wish to help these students this week, let us know.
Please make sure you bring money this week to secure your poppy.
Please do not leave it until the last minute.
We have a few metal pin badges for £2 each, as well as reflectors.
The traditional poppy, with pin, is, we suggest at TBSHS, 50 pence or £1.
You attach the traditional poppy by carefully weaving in, then out, twice on the lapel of your jacket or top with the pin, and then putting the stem of your poppy in the gap created, resting your poppy on the bridge created by the pin. Please do not touch the sharp end of the pin.
All monies go to The Royal British Legion.
We very kindly, passionately and respectfully encourage all in the school community to choose to wear a poppy.
For the poppy is an equal, diverse and inclusive symbol of hope, remembrance, service, suffering and thoughtfulness.
Wearing a poppy to remember those who have suffered and served, and those who continue to suffer and serve, is just a very small but very poignant, significant and symbolic act from us to remember those who gave, and give, absolutely everything in so many areas of life.
A focus of “The Poppy Appeal” nationally this year is the mental health of those who have served and suffered.
If you are in Physical Education kit, please keep your poppy and pin safe in your pencil case for when you wear uniform. If you are in Physical Education kit on Monday 11th November, you should re-attach your poppy before our service.
Thank you for your wonderful “Black and Gold Spirit” once again.
