Thought For The Day – Tuesday 24th March 2026
Wonderful Will
Thank you to students for their engagement with the Lent and Easter services at Saint Michael’s Church. Year 7, Year 12, and Year 13 continue that leadership and participation today. Please continue to show respect when entering, and leaving, the church, and during the services. If you can, and are able, to make a small donation to Saint Michael’s Church as you depart, that would be very much appreciated.
The services provide an opportunity to pause for thought, and moral commitment to good actions that follow such reflection, over what, respectfully, matters to us in our lives and to the community and world at large.
In our lives, those we love, and those who guide and inspire us, will always be part of us on our journey in this life and beyond.
Today, including in the services, we particularly remember our inspirational student, Will Scutts, and Will’s wonderful family. Will passed away from this life on the 24th of March 2023. Will was in Year 11.
Will was an outstanding student who epitomized the values, and ethos, of The Bishop’s Stortford High School.
This was superbly demonstrated in Will’s outstanding and unique contribution to every dimension of T.B.S.H.S.: in lessons with academic subjects; with extra-curricular activities, particularly sport, music, and drama; in Will’s leadership role as House President for Shaw House; and in the kind of true “Black and Gold” person and role model Will was.
For example, Will was such a bravura and superb speaker at our end of term “Final Assembly” in December 2022, delivering two very memorable speeches, which combined excellent use of language and humour. There have been no better speeches at Final Assembly over the years than these, perhaps equalled only by the incredibly moving tributes paid in a Final Assembly on 2023.
Will was also the star of “House Drama” in 2022, a distinctive and inspiring extra-curricular opportunity at T.B.S.H.S., which is now, movingly, dedicated to Will.
Will’s year group showed brilliance, a reflection of Will’s even greater brilliance,, in their graceful and moving tributes in the last three years, bringing in flowers, setting up their own memorial garden, conducting their own memorial moments and services. Inspirational student leadership.
A beautiful, colourful, and vivid bench dedicated to Will, and organised by Mr. Ardin, in the Year 11 Courtyard made the journey from London Road to Beaumont Avenue.
For wonderful Will is always part of T.B.S.H.S., past, present, and future.
