Thought For The Day – Thursday 5th March 2026
Happy World Book Day
Happy World Book Day!
The theme for World Book Day 2026 is: “Go All In”.
This theme encourages us to fully commit, to what appropriately. and respectfully, engages us, through reading.
It has been, and still is, “Book Week” at T.B.S.H.S. with very thoughtful and engaging activities led by Mrs. Miles, Miss. Butler, Miss. Bishop, Mrs. Houghton, and Ms. MacEachern.
T.B.S.H.S. has very much “gone all in”.
From: students finding out what staff are currently reading; to “Drop Everything And Read” (not just an activity but a guide for life); to the form window displays currently in production; to tomorrow’s World Book Week quiz in the Hall; to Miss. Butler’s assemblies; it is a fine programme.
And again today.
Thank you very much to Ms. MacEachern, T.B.S.H.S. will host a very special guest, highly acclaimed, and respected author, Ashley Hickson-Lovence. Ashley Hickson-Lovence will deliver a special assembly and speak to groups throughout the day. Please give our very special guest a true “Black and Gold” welcome. This is a fabulous opportunity to engage with an outstanding person and role model. From page to person, from person to page, such a meeting adds a further dimension to reading.
And, although reading impacts every area and subject of life, this week provides a very important opportunity to thank Ms. Matharu and all the staff, and students, of the brilliant English Language and Literature Department, including Mr. Patterson who has inspired this area for many generations. This is not an easy area to teach, or to learn, but it so very enjoyable and enlightening, and is a vital foundation for every part of life.
Very appropriately, this time of literacy awareness and celebration falls at a time each year when we remember Mrs. Helen Fletcher, who passed away on the 3rd of March 2020. Mrs. Fletcher served T.B.S,H.S. as school librarian for thirty-one years. Mrs. Fletcher lived to see Greg James, a former student of T.B.S.H.S., and his co-author Chris Smith, feature a character based on Mrs. Fletcher in their superb “Kid Normal” series.
