Thought For The Day – Thursday 5th February 2026
Black and Gold Aspiration
It has been yet another busy week for Sport at The Bishop’s Stortford High School, with football and rugby cup games and tournaments.
Thank you to all Physical Education staff, coaches, grounds staff, and players.
One such match was held yesterday evening, pictured above, at Beaumont Avenue, on the brilliant new pitch that many people raised funds for over many years.
Under the lights, dreams became reality. A very special moment.
Black and Gold Aspiration.
Today, Year 10 rugby players compete in a national rugby quarter final in Penrith, pictured below, in Cumbria, 267 miles away from Bishop’s Stortford.
The Bishop’s Stortford High School will play Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith.
Respect will, once again, be at the heart of the game between two wonderful and aspirational schools.
T.B.S.H.S. on the road. Representing the Black and Gold, everywhere we go.
In its geography, and in its people, Cumbria, and the Lake District, a sporting heartland, and the inspiration for the Cumbrian poet William Wordsworth, and so many more, is a beautiful place.
Its fells, hills, lakes, mountains, and valleys, are a metaphor of aspiration, resilience, serenity, and support.
Some quotations from William Wordsworth:
“Wisdom is oft-times nearer when we stoop than when we soar.”
“The best portion of a good person’s life: their little, nameless unremembered acts of kindness and love.”
“Let Nature be your teacher.”
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.”
“Love betters what is best.”
“The best is yet to be.”
