Thought For The Day – Thursday 4th December 2025
Christmas Care
Christmas, like any time of year, is a good time, and opportunity, to think of, and help , others.
Many people experience physical, physiological, economic, and environmental challenges locally, nationally, and internationally.
Locally, over many days at the time, “Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club” raise money in their “Christmas Collections” project for those in need in our local area. Thank you very much to those who have signed up to help Interact with the traditional “bag packing” activity on Sunday 14th December.
As in previous years, Ms. Mac in the Library has been very kindly collecting a very large, and inspiring, number of toys for “The Salvation Army” for those in need this Christmas.
On Tuesday, the School raised money for “Save The Children” and “Grove Cottage” charities, international and local, by wearing a Christmas item. Whilst we enjoyed our Christmas lunch, we are very mindful of others.
Today, Year 8 students are selling cakes for cancer care charities, in memory of those who suffer, have suffered and have passed away because of cancer. Much preparation has been invested by Year 8 students and staff.
We do not forget that there will be people who will not be well this Christmas, whether they are not well at home or in hospital.
And we do not forget all those who work in the caring professions looking after those in need at this time.
Very poignantly, there will be people who have passed away from this life who will be very much missed. They look down, and are with us, from Heaven.
Through the busy-ness, challenges, the commercialisation, the expectation, and even the stress, what really matters, is that humble and little, but vast, space of love. That is everything.
The care, joy and love of the season can be combined.
Of course, there will be many acts of care and charity that are, and will be, quiet, and unsung, known only to the giver and receiver. The true “secret Santas”. Deep integrity. By no means is everything is done to, and with, applause, crowds and fanfare, or mentioned in little messages such as these.
Whether it be on our street, or in our school, we think of, and act for, others this Christmas season.
A seemingly small gesture can, and does, mean the absolute world.
All these very important, and timeless, messages will be reflected, in words and music, at our Christmas services at Saint Michael’s Church on the 15th and 16th of December.
