Thought For The Day – Thursday 17th July 2025
Today is Non-Uniform Day.
Thinking Of, And Acting For, Others
Today, we have an important opportunity to think of, and do something for, others locally, nationally and internationally before the Summer holidays.
Thank you to Interact students for organising this day.
Interact is supported by “The Rotary Club”, an international organisation. Their very appropriate motto is: “Service Above Self”.
Today, we also express our great appreciation to Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club for all they have done, and continue to do, for the School each week.
Monies raised today go to:
“Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank”, helping those in need in our local area over the Summer;
“The Molly Rose Foundation” (in loving memory of Molly Russell, pictured below, a wonderful and inspirational person beyond words who passed away from this life in November 2017, aged fourteen), a mental health and on-line safety charity, led by Molly’s dad, Ian Russell, an inspirational and selfless leader for mental health and wellbeing and a safer Internet;
“UNICEF”; the United Nations’ charity helping, defending and saving the lives and rights of the world’s children; and “Global Citizen”, an organisation with the aim of defeating poverty, defending the planet and demanding equity.
Please ensure you bring: your £2; your locker key; your school equipment, your Physical Education kit if you have Physical Education or Games.
Learning continues. Anyone who does not show respect will be sanctioned.
Monies (£2 each) will be collected, and registered, in form time tomorrow.
As always, if payment is genuinely challenging for you, and your family, at this time, please speak to your form tutor.
Please ensure your non-uniform is appropriate for school and the workplace. Any questions, please-mail Mr. Etheridge. No caps in school. Please do not buy items especially.
Every student needs to play their key part.
As always, respect for all students (and their non-uniform today), respect for all staff, respect for all the school facilities (remember the cleaners work nearly 5 hours each evening) and respect for the wider community to, and from, T.B.S.H.S. (for example, on busses and public transport, in Bishop’s Stortford and the local area, to members of the public) is also absolutely vital.
We think of, and act for, all in need and all suffering locally, nationally and internationally.
The “Black and Gold Spirit” is about caring for others, as well as ourselves.
Today, and beyond, we need a “proper T.B.S.H.S.” performance.
Thank you very much for your support.
It is very, very much appreciated and not, and never, taken for granted.
In the most respectful memory of Molly Russell, pictured below, a brilliant, wonderful and inspirational person beyond words, and Molly’s loving and inspirational family and friends.
