Thought For The Day – Monday 9th June 2025
The Black and Gold Spirit
Another week of “Black and Gold” opportunities.
Doors will be opened. For ourselves. For others.
For, after we walked through an open door, we hold that door open for someone else. Physically and spiritually. Just as people held the door open for us. And, if there is not such an opportunity for us, and others, we create one.
We massively appreciate, and make the very most of, these opportunities, and all who give them.
External and public examinations continue for Year 11 and Year 13 students. This is a unique moment in students’ lives. Dig deep. Keep on keeping on. Trust the process and your outstanding character. Respect the examinations. Keep believing. Students should run their best race and just do their best. Our best is always enough. Stay healthy and resilient. No regrets. Summer holidays is the reward.
Good luck to Year 12 students, who have commenced their important “Gateway” examinations. The countdown to the final and decisive examinations in less than a year, time that will go quickly, so it is never too early to be fully focussed, has begun.
As it has for Year 10 students, who will represent the School, themselves and their families in wonderful work experience this week. Work experience for Year 12 students will follow next week.
A massive thank you to Mrs. Jonas for organising work experience placements once again for two year groups over two weeks, and for her continued inspirational careers education, week after week, month after month, year after year, at T.B.S.H.S.
After their “Gateway” examinations, Year 12 will start to finalise their plans for their futures beyond the sixth form. Thank you to Mrs. Price for all her wonderful work in this vital area. Sixth Form students have had great opportunities over so many years because of Mrs. Price’s brilliant work.
Very best wishes this week to: Year 7 students on “Bushcraft”; Year 8 students visiting William Shakespeare’s “Globe” in London; and cricketers touring Guernsey. “A truly all-round education”.
We greatly thank staff organisers, leaders and supervisors, as well as all hosts for all these fabulous and fantastic opportunities.
Thank you to Mrs. Kitching for her outstanding work with all educational visits throughout the year. There really are too many school visits each academic year to count. And every single one goes through Mrs. Kitching.
Equal thanks to Ms. Engel for all her crucial work in supporting this area, which is so integral to the School.
We never forget “the team behind the team”. On Friday, we said thank you to Mrs. Crocker. Mrs. Crocker “admitted” students to T.B.S.H.S. and thoughtfully checked on attendance, amongst many other roles.
Thank you to students for representing the School this week, and even more importantly, their families and themselves.
Our families, and those who care for us, are “the team behind the team behind the team”.
We are our roots.
This week is U.K. Carers’ Week. More on this important week, and these totally inspirational people, later this week.
Whether we are in School, or in the community, wherever we go, we spread the caring “Black and Gold Spirit”.
